In 1971, Jim received his Bachlor of Arts in Ceramics from San Jose State University. At that time, there were very few production potters and it was not considered a suitable career to pursue. But after making tens of thousands of pots, Jim is happy with his choice. In addition to teaching at Mesa College in Grand Junction, Jim has taught pottery to many individuals through private instruction. Jim feels teaching is a great way to learn new views of clay, make the basics fresh again, and challenge himself beyond his comfort zone. Jim's work is included in Kirkland Museum's permanent collection.
